In
traditional Africa the art of smelting was a symbol
of status and practiced by men. It was a rare profession
with jealously guarded secrets. Each aspirant had to
be chosen by the spirit of a former blacksmith. According
to Archaeological records, the art of smelting and moulding
has a big impact on the African socio-economic formation.
That’s
Africa is involved in the production of beautifully
decorated products incorporating tribal and ethnic designs,
using molten scrap metal poured into simple sand molds,
bringing a certain uniqueness to every piece. This process
of melting down the metal to achieve simply magnificent
pieces also contributes to cleaning the environment,
as old discarded metal is purchased from the locals
thereby generating an income for them. |
